England Are An Embarrassment

…and France have made it to their second World Cup final in eight years. Not bad. Not bad at all in fact seeing as ENGLAND HAVE ONLY MANAGED IT ONCE IN OVER 50.

Congratulations to Italy on reaching the World Cup final for the seventh time. WHAT!!! Seven times??? That’s precisely seven times more than England, from a country that has a slightly smaller population and a much smaller professional football league. Now that has really got me thinking.

What could the difference be between Italy and England that makes them so good and us so bad? Answer: a) Passion, b) Pride, c) Desire, or d) All of the above. Clearly the answer is (d), plus a whole lot more.

By the by, Germany have also played in 7 finals. Good for them.

The England national football team are simply an embarrassment. That’s something I’ve known deep down for a long, long time, but Germany 2006 has finally made me want to shout about it. So here I am.

On 1st June 2006, England yet again bowed out of a major tournament in embarrassing fashion. This web site was started the next day. Why? Because I’m just sick of it, sick of not only the performances but also the endless drivel of the English press, telling us to welcome our players back as heros because they finally pulled their collective finger out for an hour so. Well I’m afraid I won’t be calling them heros. Instead I’m going to tell it as it is. And I’m going to keep telling it until something changes.

When will that be? Perhaps when they finally win the World Cup, the trophy they have rather pathetically won only once in their “illustrious” history. Or maybe the European Championship, a competition they have never even come close to winning.

Embarrassing, eh? I couldn’t agree more.
